What is Jikiden Reiki?
Jikiden Reiki will open your heart and mind to all that is magical, mysterious, grounding and down to earth.
“In Reiki there is only one single goal and that is to touch and move the soul, the essence, the eternal light of the client or student so he recognises his nature and awakens. Everything else happens by itself, in spite of us….There is nothing you can do to make Reiki better, it is already perfect as it is, and so are you.”
— Frank Arjava Petter Sensei.
What is Reiki?
The wisdom of Eastern systems of medicine have understood for thousands of years that we live in a world of energy that flows through all of life.
Reiki itself can be described as universal energy that flows through all life and matter.
Reiki Ryoho (therapy) is a completely natural hands on healing energy originating in Japan in 1922 by Mikao Usui that can support the healing of both body and mind. Reiki is such a beautifully gentle healing treatment to receive and complements all other alternative or conventional medical treatments.
It helps to nourish and balance our own energy system, boosting the natural healing ability of our body and bringing us in alignment with our own inner most natural state of being.
The style of Reiki I practice and teach is called Jikiden Reiki®.
直傳靈氣
Jikiden Reiki®
Jikiden Reiki is Reiki without modern influence or modification, the way it was originally taught in Japan. It is pure, simple, grounding and authentic to its roots and an incredibly effective natural healing method for the body and mind.
Jikiden means ‘directly passed down’, referring to the passing down of the original teachings of Dr Chujiro Hayashi and of Mikao Usui before him, with no modifications or changes. At the heart of Jikiden Reiki teachings is its fascinating background of Japanese culture presented with clarity and authenticity. It has over 65 years of practical experience behind it. Jikiden Reiki passes on these precious teachings, Usui’s gift to all humanity, from respected teacher to student and seminars today replicate, as close as is possible, the original seminars led by Usui Sensei and Dr Hayashi Sensei (his student). Within these seminars you will receive a clear, concise framework for how to effectively use Reiki to support the body’s innate healing capacity.
Jikiden Reiki was started by Chiyoko Yamaguchi. Chiyoko learnt Reiki directly from one of the original teachers (Hayashi Sensei) in 1938 when she was just 17 years of age. She continued to practice throughout her whole life, with her family and in her local community, until she passed away in 2003. In 1999, Chiyoko Sensei founded the Jikiden Reiki Institute with her son Tadao Yamaguchi, which aims to preserve and teach the original Reiki methods as practiced in Japan before any Western influence.
When you learn Jikiden Reiki, you really do feel as though you have been handed a gift. A beautifully grounding therapy and way of being. Simple, yet full of depth and incredibly effective.
As a Jikiden Reiki Shihan (Teacher) I feel incredibly honoured to be a ‘keeper’ of these original, traditional teachings. To share Reiki with its original roots and concepts intact makes so much sense to me. Pure and simple Japanese Reiki; nothing added and nothing taken away; all shared with the original intentions and concepts intact.
Anyone can learn to do Reiki. It is so easy to learn and once you have it, if you practice regularly, you have it for life to support your own health and wellbeing and that of your nearest and dearest.
"The most basic form of Reiki is as a home remedy.”
—Tadao Sensei (Head of the Jikiden Reiki Institute)
Benefits of Jikiden Reiki
Body; Mind; Spirit
Jikiden Reiki offers a holistic approach to healing on multiple levels that benefits the body, mind, and spirit.

The human body has an incredible inner healing ability. Learning Jikiden Reiki has offered me a renewed appreciation for all that my body does and how hard it works. From my own personal healing and from witnessing treatments of many people, I am constantly in awe of how effective Jikiden Reiki is. Having Reiki energy flow through me, and having the ability to give myself daily Reiki treatments has helped me to overcome the diagnosis of a chronic autoimmune condition. For this I am forever grateful.
The physical symptoms we experience, some subtle, some not so subtle, are our body’s way of sharing with us that something is out of kilter. Nothing is random in the language of physical expression. Our every ache, pain and malady is a message sent from our vital body reaching out to be acknowledged.
Jikiden Reiki offers:
✦ Pain Relief: including acute or chronic pain, injuries, and post-surgical pain.
✦ Accelerated Healing: Regular sessions can promote faster recovery from illnesses and injuries by enhancing the body’s natural healing processes.

The mind and body are so intricately linked. Our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes can positively or negatively affect how healthy and well our bodies are. In other words our emotional/ mental wellbeing is deeply interconnected to our physical wellbeing and vice versa.
Receiving physical Reiki treatments offers such a wonderful support for the mind, helping to calm and relax. There is also a specific psychological treatment called Sei Heki Chiryo that can help with unserving thought patterns and habits, which is incredibly effective.
The Gokai (Reiki principles) also bring attention to the way we live and the thoughts we have.
Jikiden Reiki helps to:

All of life is spiritual. We are spiritual beings having a human experience here on earth. Learning Jikiden Reiki reminds us that there is so much more to the world that what can be seen by the eye. Reiki accentuates our connection to everything - to each other, to nature and with practice and experience we begin to see the spiritual in our every day life.
Originally in Japan, it was recognised that Reiki helps us to connect with our soul or ‘tamashi’. The giving and receiving of Reiki helps to awaken our individual tamashi (soul) and to remember why it is here and what it is here to do. Through learning Jikiden Reiki we understand and experience how we are all connected to the same universal 'source' energy or 'greater tamashi'. This 'source energy' flows through everything, from human beings, and animals and nature too.
Jikiden Reiki helps:
✦ Enhance spiritual growth and inner connection - supporting us to live more consciously with a deeper understanding of life and our connection to everything .
✦ Create greater inner peace - reducing inner turmoil and fostering a serene inner state.
✦ Live more mindfully with greater awareness & a deeper connection to our intuition providing clarity and direction in life.
✦ Fosters a deeper connection to universal energy which results in us feeling more connected to the world and people around us.
✦ Live authentically and in alignment with our life purpose - fostering a deeper connection to our true selves and our spiritual path.
What I love about Jikiden Reiki
-
It honours the original teachings of Mikao Sensei and Chujiro Hayashi Sensei - the original heart of the teachings are intact with no modification or modernisation.
-
Jikiden Reiki draws upon over 65 years of experience as Chiyoko Sensei had used Reiki every day since she was 17 years old. Tadao (her son) also has extensive experience of Reiki and he continues to share the original teachings learnt from his mother to us today.
-
It is so simple to practice, easy to learn, incredibly grounding and practical based. As Chiyoko Sensei often said " You just put your hands on and people feel better.”
-
The Gokai (Reiki Principles) form the foundation of the Jikiden Reiki teachings and represent a spiritual map of personal inner development of how to live your life in happiness and health. They are a fundamental part of Reiki practice for both practitioners and clients and give such valuable insight into what one needs to continue working on in order to live a healthier and happier life. In Jikiden Reiki you learn to recite the Gokai aloud in Japanese, helping you to connect to the energy of the words (kotodama).
-
At the heart of Jikiden Reiki is a desire to promote its use in the home within families. It can be used as a first port of call to cope with common illnesses and injuries in a natural way. As Tadao Sensei says 'the most basic concept of Reiki is as a home remedy."
-
The spirit and ethos of the Jikiden Reiki community is incredibly nurturing, encouraging and supportive. Once trained, there are regular opportunities to connect with other Jikiden Reiki Practitioners across the UK through the Jikiden Reiki UK Association. These meetings create wonderful opportunities to meet with like minded souls.
-
The trainings are very well structured with a clear pathway from practitioner to teacher. There is depth and discipline within the content, honouring the traditional teachings.
-
Training in Jikiden Reiki is just the very beginning. Once trained it is then all about practice, practice, practice! There are wonderful opportunities provided to support deepen and expand knowledge and experience through workshops and meetings with certified Jikiden Reiki Teachers and the Jikiden Reiki UK Association. If you are inspired to become a Teacher of Jikiden Reiki, there is a clear pathway from Practitioner level to Teacher. It takes a number of years to work towards becoming a Teacher, all the while completing a minimum hours of practice and teaching of seminars. It is considered an honour to become a ‘keeper’ of these original mystical teachings and is not something that can be completed on a whim.
